  • Abstract
In high-power microwave systems with and without the background gas, the effect of the transverse field structure on the discharge is investigated by comparing the pseudo-3D simulation in TE10 mode with the 1D where TEM mode is presumed. At the presence of the background gas. The number of electrons shows big discrepancy between the 1D and pseudo-3D simulations while the mean kinetic energies of electrons are nearly the same. In the pseudo-3D, the upper boundary of the susceptibility diagram is nearly vertical so that only the lower boundary is relevant. Under the large electric field, the multipactor discharge starts from the edge and moves to the center in the transverse direction as the longitudinal electric field increases
