Abstract
Circular patch antennas are used as low profile antennas for global positioning systems and cellular phones. The far fields are estimated within the frequency range applicable to GPS and UMTS applications. The patch antennas are modelled using conformal mapping and Bessel functions of the first kind. The results of this novel hybrid approach are validated with respect to the simulation results. The results are found to be in agreement when the fringing fields are modelled and combined with the analytical model.
