Abstract
Sensor nodes are mostly battery operated and are usually deployed in difficult to access locations. So, minimizing energy consumption is a key task in design of a Wireless Sensor Networks. Deterministic node placement can be an important optimization means for achieving design goals. In this paper we have proposed and compared three deterministic relay node (RN) placement strategies to maximize the connectivity and life time of the network. The performance of the three RN placement strategies is evaluated on the basis of the mathematical derivation of the Effective Coverage areas and the Effective Coverage area ratios. The network performance is further optimized by making use of mobile sink which reduces energy consumption significantly.
