Abstract
It can be seen that though proportional fairness has been studied extensively, a complete solution does not exist for multi-rate WLANs. In this paper, we provide preliminary results to remedy the situation. Our main contribution is to prove that the proportional fairness is same as the time based fairness for uplink transmissions and thus prove the conjecture of (Jiang and Liew, 2005). The equivalence is shown for both basic and RTS/CTS modes of transmission.
