Abstract
Combined free/demand assignment multiple access (CFDAMA) protocols are suitable for networking bursty data terminals using a wideband packet satellite. We analyze the performance of CFDAMA that use piggybacked reservation. The probability generating function (PGF) of the message delay is developed. The performance is evaluated in terms of average packet delay, variance of packet delay and cumulative probability distribution of packet delay. Comparison with other existing schemes shows CFDAMA to be superior in terms of all the above three performance measures, for a range of user population size
