  • Abstract
This paper presents a technique that utilizes amplitude-only data to estimate the location in indoor wireless local area networks (WLANs). The technique is based on the Prony algorithm, which has been used for the prediction of multipath parameters. The use of amplitude-only data instead of complex data in the prediction process reduces the complexity and the cost of the data measurement and acquisition systems. Most importantly, synchronization of the base stations or coherent channel measurements is not necessary. Computer simulations for noisy and noiseless data have been performed to confirm the technique. In addition, measurements at WLAN frequencies are performed for further validation of the suggested technique.
