  • Abstract
Network lifetime maximization is of paramount importance for providing an adequate level of connection to individual sessions in wireless networks. This paper addresses the rate control problem in a multi-hop random access wireless network for network lifetime maximization within the framework of nonlinear programming. Moreover, this problem also incorporates sending and receiving packets cost at energy limited node. While this problem is non-convex and non-separable due to coupled wireless links. We use the two-time scale technique to design joint rate control at the transport layer and scheduling at the link layer. We present an analysis to show that the global network operating point is reached by convergence with this two-time scale algorithm, which not only arbitrates link resource allocation, regulates node energy consumption but also avoids wireless transmission contention. Simulations illustrate the way in which network resource are allocated to users according to cross-layer constraint and show that the optimal lifetime can be achieved
