Abstract
NASA is planning manned exploration missions back to the Moon and on to Mars. Space-based applications, which are required to be energy efficient for these missions - may have to operate in environments with intermittent connectivity, long latencies, and possibly with relay nodes. This paper overviews protocol stacks from IEEE, IETF, and CCSDS appropriate for these missions
