Abstract
In this paper, we demonstrate an external cavity, active mode-locked GCSEL and amplification characteristics of grating coupled surface emitting semiconductor optical amplifier (GCSOA) using a c.w. external cavity grating coupled surface emitting laser (GCSEL). The experimental results represent a significant a step towards high power optical pulse generation using semiconductor lasers.
