Abstract
A review of the various techniques that have been used to successfully measure the basis weight and thickness of flat web products is presented. The sensors that are discussed include nuclear and X-ray sensors, capacitance sensors, direct caliper sensors utilizing eddy current, ultrasonic, and laser technologies, and a selective sensor utilizing infrared (IR) technology.<>
