Abstract
The traffic lights in the Greater London area, which are under Urban Traffic Control (UTC), are connected via leased telephone lines to UTC in-station computers running fixed-time plans or the SCOOT adaptive control algorithm. As part of the London UTC modernisation scheme, a new data transmission system known as TCAM is currently being developed. TCAM (Traffic Control and Monitoring) is a data transmission system specified jointly by TCSU and Microsense Systems Ltd. TCAM is a TCP/IP based open system specification, allowing equipment from different manufacturers to be interfaced to the system. This paper outlines the current state of the TCAM project.
