Abstract
Object-oriented systems analysis and specification (OSA) is an approach to systems analysis that builds on the strengths of existing methodologies and, at the same time, addresses their weaknesses. The basic concepts behind the OSA methodology are described. The foundation of OSA system models is the object class. An object class represents a set or group of system objects that have a similar set of properties and behavior. OSA imposes a natural modularization and structure on the system model through the emphasis on object classes. Each object class in the OSA system model has a one-to-one correspondence with an actual group of objects in a real-world system. The methodology places the emphasis on understanding each system component prior to designing an implementation architecture for the system. This understanding is accomplished by building and testing conceptual models of the system under study. The resulting OSA specification provides a formal, consistent foundation for system design and implementation.<>
