Abstract
The ship cabin fire is different from other types of fire because the surrounding bulkheads of cabin are usually made of steel which is a good conductor of heat. Lots of heat produced by the fire would conduct from the steel bulkhead to other cabins. The hot bulkhead would also heat up the air in the cabin with radiation and convection. Investigating the law of temperature rising in the steel cabin during the fire would have an important meaning to guide the fireproofing design of the cabin. This paper uses the fire simulation software FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator) which has a Large Eddy Simulation turbulence model to simulate a full scale cabin fire experiment designed by U.S. Coast Guard. FDS would predict accurate temperature distribution in the middle and top domain of the cabin. The cold layer temperature which affected by the incoming air predicted by FDS is not so good.
