Abstract
This paper covers two important aspects of impulse-radio UWB transmission: the regulatory issues regarding the maximum allowed signal power, and the determination of the signal to noise ratio in such systems. In first case the formula is derived, which allows to calculate the peak signal amplitude, depending on the pulse shape and transmission rate. In the second part the figure of merit is introduced, that allows the comparison of different UWB receiver types, independent on the pulse repetition frequency. The theoretical considerations are backed up with practical measurements using a UWB transceiver.
