Abstract
This paper proposes a novel control strategy for multilevel inverters that equalizes the pulse count in all the switching levels, minimizes switching losses and increases the device life. A field programmable gate array (FPGA) controller is chosen to implement the proposed control method due to its high computation speed that ensures the accuracy of the gating signal instants. The gating signal controller has been realized using Spartan III processor. A seven level Cascaded Sources Multilevel DC-Link (CSMLDCL) inverter is simulated, a prototype is fabricated and the results are validated in a real time platform.
