Abstract
Mobile Ad hoc networks (MANET) typically consist of the nodes equipped with omni-directional antennas. The using of directional antennas may bring several benefits compared with omni-directional antennas, such as lower interference, better spatial reuse, longer transmission range and improvement of network capacity. This paper presents the application of directional antennas in wireless MANET network and its contribution to enhancement of quality of service (QoS) parameters. The model of wireless MANET network was created in NS-2 simulator with two types of antennas - omni-directional and directional. An apparent improvement of chosen QoS parameters was demonstrated by using directional antennas in MANET networks.
