Abstract
This paper presents a new method of distinguishing the transient faults and permanent faults on transmission lines. Based on the mathematic model of an arc, the approach investigated different fault arc voltage characters and found that the harmonic contents contained in the voltage are different at different moment. By analyzing the are voltage. an algorithm based on the odd harmonic is proposed to realize the single-pole adaptive reclosure. Theoretical analysis and EMTP simulation tests show that the proposed technique is correct and valid.
