Abstract
The low resource availability in the nodes of recent wireless networks has raised several new issues in the design of their hardware and software components. One of the high level approaches for optimizing resource usage in these networks is to reduce the number of communications among wireless nodes. In this paper, we propose a new paradigm for optimizing the number of data transmissions between nodes according to new attributes of next generation networks with wireless, energy-aware and data-centric features. We nickname our approach pattern-based communication. In pattern-based communication, every client issues its interest about receiving data according to some predefined patterns. If the set of data satisfies a pattern condition then the node sends the result of processing of this set of data to every client who is interested instead of sending all of them in turn. We evaluated our solution in a cluster-based wireless sensor network and show how the proposed communication model could optimize resource consumptions in sensor nodes
