Abstract
This paper discusses the configuration and operation of a power electronic converter used for grid connection of a permanent magnet generator designed for variable speed wind turbines. Initially the test platform for permanent magnet generators is described, followed by the design parameters of the PM synchronous generator developed for wind turbines in the 10 kW range. For optimal grid connection of the generator, a topology of the power electronic converter has been chosen using an active front end mains rectifier supplying the DC link and motion control inverter connected to the generator. Finally the measurement results obtained from grid connection of the permanent magnet synchronous generator are presented followed by some conclusions.
