Abstract
The joint video team is currently involved in a standardization effort to extend the AVC/H.264 video coding standard to support spatial scalability. The current system utilizes a pyramidal coding framework, where higher spatial resolutions are predicted from lower spatial resolutions and subsequently refined with an enhancement bit-stream. In this paper, the author considers the problem of mapping the lower resolution data to the higher resolution grid. The overall design methodology of the standardization project is described and an optimal method for filter design is considered.
