Abstract
The paper describes the National Grid Company´s (NGC) protection and control philosophy and establishes the foundations for a quantitative assessment of the effect on the performance of the transmission network of integrated protection and control schemes. The assessment discusses the identification and classification of the failure modes of the individual components and subsystems and applies an event tree model to evaluate the dependability and security of the overall protection system. A similar process can be used for control functions
