Abstract
Since the internet advent, CATV operators got users and customers transporting data that relies on a secure network. This broadband network originally developed for TV applications where the information´s went in the top-down direction, needs to have a reliable power backup in order to compete with the availability level of existing telecom system. A new 1 kW CATV UPS has been developed to meet that reliability requirement as well as the specific CATV environment. Among the most important one, the weight and the compactness of this UPS have been optimized to reach less than 16 kg while based on a natural convection. A vertical execution has been designed to make the UPS integration easier in the classical outdoor (street) cabinet thanks to the high efficiency and the natural convection. The EMC filtering has to meet the usual standards but specifically the RF emission should be very low to avoid the decreasing of signal to noise ratio on the COAX lines.
