  • Abstract
    In recent years, we have experienced a strong demand for ubiquitous information access anywhere, anytime. The emergence of wireless networks (IEEE 802.11, Bluetooth) and mobile devices of varying sizes and form factor (handheld, cellular telephone) are playing a fundamental role in enabling users´ seamless connectivity to the Internet and achieve this ubiquitous information access. One of the most popular applications deployed over the last decade is audio/video streaming. With IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth networks frequently used as extensions to the Internet, it is imperative that these networks provide efficient audio streaming support for optimal end-to-end continuous media streaming. We focus on the design and implementation of an architecture that provides audio streaming protocol support between devices residing on a Bluetooth network by exploiting the audio/video distribution transport protocol (AVDTP) standard specified for Bluetooth. Our architecture enables Bluetooth users to perform audio streaming between a Bluetooth-enabled device such as headset and other devices connected to the Bluetooth network or the Internet.
