Abstract
Radiation characteristics of a wide-band dipole antenna over an electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) reflector are investigated. The mushroom-like EBG structure is used as the EBG reflector. The analysis is performed using Method of Moment. It is shown that wideband characteristics of the voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) are obtained. However, good radiation patterns in the wide frequency range are not always obtained even though the wideband EBG reflector is used. Subsequently, the radiation mechanism is analyzed. The analysis results show that the shape of the radiation pattern depends on the dimension of the EBG patch.
