Abstract
This paper describes a binary reflection mode spatial light modulator (SLM) which is constructed by placing a layer of ferroelectric liquid crystal directly on a silicon chip. The light modulating area of the device is a square array of 256 by 256 pixels on 21.6 micron centers. The SLM has been demonstrated to work with electronic load times of 43 μs and liquid crystal switching times of ≈50 μs
