Abstract
A practical high-voltage pulser can be designed to work with electrode-equipped pipes to prevent zebra mussel settlement in water systems. The design task must mate electrodes and electronics to decrease costs. The lower conductivity of fresh water implies lower operating costs than salt water situations. Borrowing technology from other fields provides the quickest path to reliable systems. Utilization of pulse generating equipment is improved at higher pulse rates. Transformer-coupled outputs assure waveform balance and enhances electrode life. Bipolar design prevents (minimizes) electrode scaling. Bipolar design provides some measure of redundancy and a fail-safe mode of operation
