Abstract
The Pohang Light Source (PLS) is a 2 GeV third-generation synchrotron radiation facility. To inject electron beam from linac, a kicker modulator and four kicker magnets are installed in the PLS storage ring tunnel. The injected beam then falls into the storage ring beam dynamic aperture. Output current of the injection kicker modulator has a half-sine waveform that has a 6.0 μs full width, ~24 kA peak current. Repetition rate of the kicker modulator is 10 Hz. Two thyratron (EEV CX1536AX) switches are used in the system. The kicker modulator was installed in August 1995. Since then, it has operated over 15,000 heater hours. The kicker modulator has been operated very reliably since its installation. Spatial B-field distribution in the kicker magnet shows good uniformity
