Abstract
We examine the possibility of extracting dynamics from sequences of interspike and interburst intervals and show that the largest Lyapunov exponent can be estimated from the point processes provided that the average value of the time intervals does not exceed a certain temporal scale (which does not coincide for different mathematical models describing the spiking phenomena)
