Abstract
Slope models (“arctan-theory”) have been very successful in the description of the recording behaviour of thin magnetic media. Using a multilayer approach, an extension of these models for the description of the recording behaviour in thick media is derived. The paper discusses the first principles of the multilayer model and the effect of some basic magnetic parameters on recording behaviour. A direct comparison with experimental data gives evidence for the excellent description of the recording process
