Abstract
The authors have previously developed a structural silica multiple-image fiber (SMIF) having a novel structure, with picture elements ranging from 5000 to 30000, resolution better than 66 line-pair/mm, and transparency better than 96%. These fibers have been used in various applications. The structure of the fiber is described, the image-transmission concepts on which it is based are examined, and its performance is evaluated
