Abstract
In this paper, a method for reducing the voltage stresses on power components and power losses in a shunt voltage source and current source active power filters (VSAPF and CSAPF) is presented. The method is based on series capacitor structure, which is used to block the fundamental supply voltage component. These two different topologies are compared according to simulation. The simulation models are experimentally validated by prototype measurements. The results show that the voltage stresses and power losses are lower in the APFs with a series-connected capacitor than in the conventional topology.
