  • Abstract
Electrochemical denitrifacation was studied for simultaneous reduction of nitrate and oxidation of by-products (ammonia and nitrite) on brass(Cu62Zn38) cathode and DSA(Ti/IrO2-Pt) anode. In the presence of 0.50 g/L NaCl and 0.5g/L Na2SO4 as supporting electrolyte, the NO3 --N decreased from 50.0 to 9.8 mg/L after 240 min electrolysis; no ammonia and nitrite were detected in the treated solution. The reduction capability of the brass cathode has been investigated in the range of potentials between 0.0 and -2.0 V vs. SCE with the Cycling Volt-ampere Methode(CVM). The brass cathode exhibited a high electrocatalytic activity for the reduction of NO3 -.
