Abstract
The search for improving the power efficiency of partial response digitally phase modulated (DPM) signals is addressed. The best combinations, resulting from our previous study, of a rate 1/2 convolutional encoder, mapping rule and 4-level partial response 3-SP DPM modulator are found and presented for each modulation index and memory length. It was shown that coded schemes which provide greater power-bandwidth efficiencies then uncoded ones can be achieved for AWGN channels. To examine the schemes under a frequency selective Rayleigh fading (FSRF) channel, a receiver structure is proposed and presented. The BER performance of these schemes are presented
