Abstract
The methodology used to design most of the complex engineering systems is "divide and conquer," in which a complex problem is partitioned into a number of simpler sub-problems that can be solved independently, and whose individual solutions yield the solution of original complex problem. A common methodology in solving these sub-problems is the reuse of existing designs to reduce design cost and development time. But the crucial part in this process is the integration of subsystems into a single system, which satisfies both system and subsystem-level requirements. In collaboration with NASA Langley Research Center, we have been trying to identify the issues and problems faced during design integration of health usage and monitoring systems (HUMS). We developed a methodology for integration of these complex systems. In This work, we present an iterative process model for the integration. We also explain the implementation of the proposed model for the integration of subsystem architectures in HUMS.
