Abstract
Performance degradation due to nonlinear Kerr effects in return-to-zero differential phase-shift keying (RZ-DPSK) and carrier suppressed returned-to-zero (CSRZ) DPSK dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) systems have been investigated. The quality factor Q is measured at the receiving end of the transmission line. Dispersion as well as Kerr effects are mitigated. Post mitigation performance for these two systems are evaluated and compared. RZ-DPSK outperforms CSRZ-DPSK largely.
