Abstract
Phylogenetic analysis is widely used to determine evolution and function of gene, to identify the genus of algae based on gene sequences. Phylogenetic trees showing the evolutionary relationship of 20 Laminariales based on rbcL and 5.8S rRNA gene sequences were compared. The validity and the reliability of phylogenetic trees were studied in this paper. The results show that rbcL gene sequences are reliable at determining relationships of Laminariales. 5.8S rRNA gene sequences are appropriate for describing phylogenetic relationships between some distantly related algae. It is useful to clarify the phylogenetic relationships of Laminariales combining rbcL with 5.8S rRNA gene sequences.
