Abstract
Land surface temperature (LST) of Harbin area was retrieved from Landsat TM/ETM+ thermal band data utilizing the mono-window algorithm and the urban heat island (HUI) effects of Harbin and its relationship with land cover. The result of LST showed that the urban LST was evidently higher than any other kinds of features. Most parts of urban area are located in the high temperature zone and in comparison, almost all the forest, water, pond, farmland are in low temperature and normal temperature zone. LST will rise when features transfer to urban land use. With the intensify of urbanization process, UHI effects of Harbin would be strengthen.
