  • Abstract
The following paper explains about the design of a Bicycle using mechatronic approach. Here a reciprocating motion is facilitated on a cylinder - piston arrangement. This reciprocating motion is generated using electromagnets which are attached at the ends of the cylinder. A coil is wound on each end of the cylinder which functions as an electromagnet. The piston head is also considered as an electromagnet by wounding coils on it. By magnetization of the top and bottom electromagnets, the piston will be made to move. Using sensors and an Astable Multivibrator, the magnetization on the electromagnet would be reversed thereby allowing the piston reciprocate constantly. This reciprocating movement is converted into rotary motion of the crank resulting in the motion of the cycle. Thus, a cycle is designed on a mechanical-electronic approach.
