Abstract
A Radar target detection procedure for a surveillance Ku-band radar is considered in this paper. The radar system applies a Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) transmit signal with very short chirp duration. The specific waveform has been selected to measure with high resolution target range and radial velocity simultaneously and unambiguously even in multi target situations. The Ku-band radar has a transmit signal bandwidth of 3 MHz and a resulting range resolution of 50 m. Due to a long time on target of 500 ms a very high radial velocity resolution of 0.06 km/h is achieved. All echo signals from moving targets like cars and pedestrians shall be detected by this radar, while all clutter echo signals from fixed objects like buildings, wind turbines, forest and vegetation shall be suppressed. A high resolution clutter map, which suppresses all clutter signals reliably and in an adaptive way will be described in this paper.
