Abstract
It is becoming increasingly apparent that the effective and efficient use of robotic and automated assembly techniques requires that the design of the product is compatible with these assembly systems. The basis for establishing a set of design rules for robotic and automated assembly are presented together with some more generalised design guidelines. Consideration is given to the presentation of the product design information to the designer using computer aided techniques.
