Abstract
In this informal presentation, we will overview experiences related to research activities in terms of best practices. Fundamental and well-established strategies will be overviewed with an emphasis of motivation and significance of specific problems while keeping track of the bigger pictures. Culvation of the research as a culture will the primary theme of this discussion. Other aspects that will be overviewed include: student-advisor relationships, pursuing novel research, thinking outside the box, pursuing research careers, technical writing skills, effective presentations, collaborative research, industry-academic partnerships, short-term versus long-term goals, professional ethics, publications and proposal. In addition, other aspects will be discussed through active participation from the audience.
