Abstract
The results of investigations to identify and quantify the effects of large scale wind generation on the operation of the New Zealand power system and electricity market are presented. The effects of variability of wind generation output and technological capability of wind generation turbines are considered. The variability of wind generation output, wind generation forecasts and management of large changes in wind generation output are the most pressing issues identified at this stage.
