Abstract
This paper describes the conception, design, construction and testing of a robotic aid for wheelchair-bound disabled children. Background information is given on the difficulties children experience whilst learning to use powered wheelchairs. A typical powered chair is described and the problems which arise from the use of this for training purposes are discussed. The requirements of a robotic training aid are considered and the design such an aid is detailed. Finally, the results of field tests are outlined
