Abstract
A compact ultra-wideband (UWB) printed monopole antenna with radial patch is proposed and investigated. In order to achieve better impedance matching over the entire UWB frequency band, the conducting ground is defected. The proposed antenna is very small in size, only 15 × 15mm. The proposed antenna is fed by a 50 microstrip line. The parameters which affect the operation of the antenna are analysed and optimized values are obtained. The bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 3.4GHz-12.8GHz for return loss less than -10dB, which is about 116% with respect to the center frequency of 8.1GHz. The radiation patterns of the proposed antenna are relatively stable over its operating band and the H-plane patterns are all omnidirectional.
