Abstract
A synergistic combination of IML and combined field and/or combined source integral equations is described. This combination is physically appealing since for perfectly conducting closed bodies the ideas of the geometrical theory of diffraction (GTD) are more closely followed, in that there is now essentially no interaction across the interior. This increases the strong correspondence of the peaks in the IML matrix to the terms of GTD. In addition, the IML matrix will be even more sparse (50/spl times/ or so) than for the IML alone and it will be banded. Many fast solution methods will work very significantly better her. Finally, the resulting integral equation is expected to be very well conditioned for convex bodies, since interactions out to the size of the body are no longer treated directly.<>
