  • Abstract
In the paper the opportunistic scheduling approaches to further enhance the throughput of next generation wireless networks of multiple users. Our framework enables us to investigate various categories of scheduling problems, use optimal solutions for these scheduling problems. An attractive feature of these optimal solutions is that they are given in a simple parametric form. We provide algorithms to estimate the parameters in these optimal solutions and describe implementation procedures for the solution. An advantage of opportunistic scheduling is that it can be coupled with other resource management mechanisms to further increase network performance. We summarize various opportunistic scheduling schemes also discuss the advantages and costs associated with opportunistic scheduling, and identify possible future research directions.
