Abstract
Experiments to investigate space charge near the surface of a polymer electret are described. One experiment studies the removal of a thin layer from the surface of an electret. The electret shows far smaller TSDC (thermally stimulated depolarized current) after removal than before. The other experiment concerns a stacked electret. A stack of three sheets of polymer film is polarized and separated into three parts. The TSDC of each sheet is measured. The TSDC of the two outer sheets is greater than that of the middle one, showing that space charge gathers near the surface
