Abstract
Utilization of source natural redundancy instead of inserting artificial redundancy for error control, which leads to joint source-channel coding, has recently attracted many researchers. The source inherent redundancy could be constructively explained by sequences typicality concept. In this paper a valuable, but disregarded, approach to joint source-channel coding based on typicality of sequences is introduced and its theoretical fundamentals are revised and developed based on information theoretic concepts and results. Then practical schemes for error detection and correction are suggested.
