Abstract
The development of an advanced capacitor bank control relay, its measurement techniques, its control parameters, and the applications for which it is suitable are described. The use of the relay in automated distribution systems, typical distribution loss improvements due to an increase in the number of switched capacitor locations, and the need for more accurate controls to accomplish this are considered. The discussion covers power factor control, voltage override, load-current-following capability, biased voltage control, and data-handling and remote control capability
