Abstract
Optical bistability and excitability are demonstrated in a semiconductor 2D photonic crystal L3 nanocavity. Excitability is a nonlinear dynamical mechanism underlying pulse-like responses to small perturbations. Excitability in a nanocavity opens-up new avenues towards 2D networks of nonlinear cells.
